Teaching
When I listen to music, I can’t stop trying to identify the grammar tense and fit it into a lesson - thi may signify the transformation from random college grad popping on over to Russia in desperate need of a job to actual teacher…maybe. Let’s just say that this is possibly the most surprising thing that has ever happened to me. If you asked me a year ago if I would have ever...
Apartments
I’ve been back in St. Petersburg for just under a month now, and I’ve only just gotten my own place. Can you imagine not having any place that is really yours for 2 months? Not that cool (but, you know, all in the name of realizing your dreams…). Despite their endless kindness and hospitality, I could help feeling in the way and a bit guily. Hopefully this just means I have a...
Food Hygiene
So, here in Russia, there are a few differences between here and my own fatherland.
I’ve just eaten at a place comparable to Cosi; looking for a healthy option, I chose an eggplant with mushrooms and peppers and what I thought was cheese. However, a load of mayo turned out to be hiding underneath the cheese and the eggplant turned out to have been sautéed/fried in loads of oil. Alas, it...
Wait, what?
Now that the stress of travel is over, my heart is lighter, my head is clearer and I can get back to the funnier, more illogical, slightly infuriating, but mostly fantastic side of Russia.
First, while I had a delightful time baking, I decided it was time to get out of the house. So I made a plan of what I must see in the city. The short list is
- visit the Hermitage as much as possible
- visit...
Bored leads to Bakery

I checked out some cooking blogs and found recipes for the things that we don’t have here in Russia that I like from the US. Yesterday, I made a pumpkin roll, with some substitutions, but it turned out…on a scale of one to 10, I’d...
Надежда умерает последный
Hope is the last to die.
I left you last with my welcomed arrival to Moscow. At 4 am, there aren’t many choices to get from the airport to the city (a 45 min electro-train ride) because nothing is open. And, well I was happy to get back to Moscow, I wasn’t so happy that I would eagerly jump in a cab with some rando cabbie by myself, so I chose one that was trying to fill his cab with...
Romania
Well, I (of COURSE) didn’t just GET to Romania.
First of all, I got on the train to go to “Kiev” - where I was supposed to arrive at the train station where there was a connecting train. Unfortunately, I had to get out before Kiev, because the conductor told me that was where my connecting train was. I was in such a rush, that I forgot my travel journal and my book (The Life of...
